Josh Faber is the new General Manager of Tyrol Basin. Josh grew up in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago and learned how to ski in the Midwest and developed the passion for winter sports that he has today. He first visited Tyrol Basin 15 years ago when they were one of the only resorts that allowed skiers in the terrain park! He (of course!) loves skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. That crossover should not be surprising, because as he says, "It’s not a job, it’s a lifestyle.". It's hard to tell where his passion for skiing ends and his job begins! You'll most likely see him a lot on the slope with his signature sunglasses.

Dave Lorenz started working at Tyrol Basin in 1979 when Tyrol was under the previous management and was a lift operator and also a "jack of all trades" back in the day, working in tickets, rentals, and the bar.  When Tyrol reopened in 1989 under current management, Dave was back on staff again as a lift operator and later was named supervisor and in 1999 became the lift manager. Dave and his family are natives of the Mt. Horeb/Blue Mounds area.  It is quite a juggling act to staff three chairlifts, rope tow and cable tow and manages approximately 30 operators each season, and Dave also conducts training and safety seminars to the operators.  He is always on watch making sure everything is going smoothly, takes on “snow removal” when a skid-steer loader is required, and pretty much has his eyes on everything from the parking lots to the top of the hills.  Dave DOES have eyes in the back of his head.  Be sure to think of Dave when you're enjoying a scenic chairlift ride.  He's watching out for you.

Janet Gorman is the Snowthings' Shop Manager and assistant to the office manager and e-commerce. Janet's list of job duties has grown and grown in the 18 years she has been here at Tyrol Basin.  Not only does she fill the Shop to the brim with great stuff for our skiers and snowboarders, but she processes all of our e-commerce and phone orders for season passes, gift cards, etc. and assists with human resources, accounts payable and accounts receivable, and can answer just about any question thrown at her.  Janet and her family are Mt. Horeb natives and in her spare time, she is the queen of garage sale shopping!    Be sure to wander into the Snowthings' Shop and see all that Janet has available for you to purchase.  You probably won't leave empty-handed!

Andy Amacher has been employed at Tyrol Basin for over 13 years and has been coordinating Mountain Services for most of them!  Andy directs almost 75 instructors during the season,  juggling schedules to be sure there are always skier and snowboarder instructors available. With a staff that large and in "on-demand" positions, oftentimes if they are not scheduled to teach a lesson, Andy assigns the instructors a multitude of duties until they are called to lessons.  These may include shoveling, salting, cleaning, judging, announcing, checking tickets, office tasks, photography, etc.  You would think that managing all of this would be enough for anyone, but Andy is involved in almost all aspects of daily operations (during the summer too) and also serves as our IT “consultant.” Tracking Andy is kind of like a game of Where's Waldo, but he usually responds with an "I'll be there in a minute," addresses the issue, grins and is gone!

Kris Huseth is the rental shop manager.  Kris has been at Tyrol since it reopened in 1989 under current management.  He and his team provide hundreds of boards, boots, and skis to our customers on a daily basis. Nobody can sharpen and tune ski and boards like Kris, or at least enjoy the finished product as much.  If he is doing a tune-up on a customer's equipment, when he hands them to you and says "they're fast" with a twinkle in his eyes - you'd better believe it!  Kris was recently married and he and his family live in Mt. Horeb.  He loves his football - both Packers and Badgers, as is evidenced by the sports paraphernalia in the rental shop.  We believe that his true love is skiing and snowboarding; at least when it isn't playoff and bowl season, but either way that twinkle in his eyes is there whether he's cheering on his team or putting a great edge on a snowboard!
